The neon runs all day. It is good neon. It sells the games, it is supposed to, and nobody has ever needed my help with it.
Neon gets dimmed, though. Everything does. And when it goes down the room does not go empty, it goes visible. There is a green glow at the back that was on the whole time, behind the noise, waiting for the arcade to be quiet enough.
These are the things at the back.
None of them sell anything. Most of them are preservation, which is the word for keeping a thing working after the world has finished with it. One of them is only a registry of things that would not stop when they were told to.
I used to think those were different jobs.
